Ready to Join

 

 SES volunteers come from all walks of life, all backgrounds and all professions. In fact, the main thing SES volunteers have in common is a desire to make a contribution within their community.

 

 

Are you ready for action?

 

 If you are over the age of 18 and have a desire to assist those within your community then you could be a potential volunteer member. You can expect excitement, challenge and the reward of knowing that your contribution makes a real difference. You will need a sense of commitment to the community and commitment to your fellow SES volunteers.

 

 

Five Step Recruiting Process

 
  1. Attend the next scheduled SES information night at our Unit Headquarters. You can obtain an application form to submit your request to join the Unit from your local SES Controller.
  2. SES HQ will request Police to perform a criminal records check (SES do not see your Police record) and we will submit your SES membership application form.
  3. Serve three months as a probationary member where you are non-active and will not have a uniform etc.
  4. After consultation with the Unit Controller, your request to become a full member of the SES will be processed.
  5. Your membership card and personal protective clothing will arrive afterwards.

Next Information / Recruiting Night

 
  • Use this application to submit your details to the unit, one of our members will then contact you with details of our next recruit information night.
  • Priority - Looking for people who work / live in the Inverloch / Cape Paterson/Tarwin Lower areas.
  • Priority- Looking for people who are interested in Flood Boat Operation and those with experience who are interested in gaining Coxswains Certificates.
When you join the Inverloch Unit you will begin your training. Training so you are able to respond to a wide range of emergencies is something that is ongoing and a challenge. You will progress from one rescue field to another building your skills and experience as you go. All members are required to attend 60% of the scheduled training sessions as a minimum.SES volunteers make themselves available for call-outs to emergencies, as and when required, depending on their individual skills.SES volunteers receive comprehensive training in emergency related activities, including the operation and maintenance of equipment provided.Courses include Rescue Boat Coxswains, Rescue Boat Crewperson, Four wheel Driving, Chainsaw, First Aid, Rescue lighting for day and night operations, Radio and GPS. Additionally the unit provides training through external training organosations in the area of Marine Coxswains Certificates.This training is fairly intensive but at the end you will be able to operate the units ocean rescue vessel.You can expect excitement, challenges and the reward of knowing that your contribution makes a real difference

Call 132 500 from anywhere in Victoria for emergency SES assistance in a flood or storm. It is the same cost as a local call in Victoria (mobiles may be higher). SES volunteers are on call 24 hours a day to provide emergency assistance if you or your property is affected by a flood or storm. When you call 132 500 you will be connected to your local SES Unit or an emergency communications centre, where a trained call taker will note the details and dispatch the local SES Unit to the incident. Phone triple zero (000) for police, fire or ambulance.
